Amaris Gutierrez-Ray: A Workshop on Quality, Gender Equity, and Value

This is a 2-hour event in 2 parts:

  1.  First we'll enjoy a cupping of women-produced coffees from multiple sources and origins

  2. Then we'll move into an open discussion about quality and value

The Women in Coffee Project is a platform that connects roasters and producers. This year the WICP has been invited to a Womxn-Powered Coffee Summit in Costa Rica in November to present on an upcoming program called TWICE (Team Women in Coffee Exchange) that will investigate quality, value, and gender equity. Through many focus groups with producers, we have been building a program that will create more opportunities for connection, the flow of information, and sensory calibration between roasters and producers. This workshop at Multimodal will serve as a focus group for the roaster perspective. A survey will be sent to participants in advance, and during the discussion we'll share the results with the group and share about how roasters consider quality and value in their own businesses and purchasing decisions. The overarching viewpoints shared in this forum will be shared with women producers at the Women-Powered Coffee Summit in November. (Should participants choose to receive more information, the WICP can follow up afterward with the results of the producer-focused workshop that we will conduct there!)
